SUNFLOWER SEED INITIATIVE
A Father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, He leads out the prisoners with singing Psalm 68:5-6 His heart weeps for the orphans and the widows. But He doesn’t just weep, He takes action. The Sunflower Seed Initiative is one element, small but not inconsequential, in God’s front in the battle for the orphans in Ukraine. Will you join us in this undertaking?

The Sunflower Seed Initiative exists to raise awareness of and to provide funding for critical orphan care in the country of Ukraine. We raise funds in two ways: 1) The sale of ornamental sunflower seeds to grow, sunflowers being the national flower of Ukraine. There are 67 varieties available this year! Just click on SHOP to see all our offerings. All net proceeds from seed sales are directed to Lifesong For Orphans in Gridley, Illinois to help in their construction of a Trauma Care Center in western Ukraine for the nation’s most traumatized orphans. 2) Direct giving. Go HERE for details. Please know that all such giving is 100% confidential. The Sunflower Seed Initiative is not told, nor would want to know, who gave what.
Since March 2024 the Sunflower Seed Initiative has raised just under $19,000.00 for orphan care in Ukraine.
Who, then, is the Sunflower Seed Initiative? In reality, it is all those who participate, whether by growing sunflowers in support of the children of Ukraine, and/or by giving financially towards the building of the Trauma Care Center. Each and every one is an integral part, a valued stakeholder.
2025 saw 750+ participants from 550+ locales in 34 states plus the District of Columbia. We believe that 2026 will be the most successful year yet!
